The Talent Of Model-Making Is Something That Is Very Usable For Architecture Endeavours
I've always loved models. When I was a child, I collected all manner of them. I had model airplanes, vehicles, boats, trains - you name it I had it. Of course, diecast models were pretty cool, but my favorites were the ones that you could assemble. I had a 1 48 scale model flying Fortress that was my pride and joy.
When I went to architecture school, I gave it all up. I figured that I could not make a career in models, and should do something else that I enjoyed. Little did I know what awaited me. I actually got a job in architectural model making! If you enjoy working with models and have passable knowledge architecture, this is an unbelievable field to get into. When I make architectural scale models, I get to build complete small worlds. Most of my architecture scale-model clients do not want to just have a make of the building that they're proposing. They want a model that depicts the whole surrounding area along with the building. This gives context to the vision, and makes it appear as if it has already sprung to life. This is where architectural scale model builders coming in.
One of the great things about architectural scale-model making is how painstaking it's. Despite all the advances of modern technology, there is still only one way to make an architecture scale model: by hand. Sure, there are some advantages that we have that former generations didn't. The individual pieces of architecture scale models can be stamped out. This saves thousands of hours of work, because you do not have to cut each piece by itself. However, adapting the architecture blueprint to an architectural scale model, designing the parts, creating the molds, trimming the parts, and putting them all together, all still need to be done by peoples' hands. Nobody has sussed out a way to automate the technique.
I'm appreciative that they have not puzzled out a way to take the individual crafts-men away from the architecture scale-model. This job is a dream come true, and I'm glad it can not be done more efficiently by equipment. I think it will be quite a long time before anyone puzzles out another way to do it. If it were simply a matter of mass manufacturing architecture scale models, it would be a different story. You could create one design and have it created by a machine. But each architectural scale model is custom-ordered, and so each must be custom made.
