We wanted to have a card for efficiency but we did not wish to build up any debt with any of the credit card businesses. That way we could never have to figure out how to get rid of credit card debt. We had both been brought up with the lessons that if you want something you wait until you have the money to buy it. You never have to get rid of credit card debt that way. We both got many offers from the different credit card businesses because we had such a good history of paying bills on schedule. We decided that we would shop around for the credit-card companies that would give us the most benefits - much easier than getting rid of credit card debt. We weren't concerned about having a low interest rate because we were in full agreement that any-thing that was put on a card would be paid off before finance charges would accrue. This is some-thing that we have done a fantastic job of sticking to during the 20 five years which we have been married.
Through the years we have had different cards. We now have a major credit-card sponsored by a sporting goods company that my husband buys from on a consistent basis. We get points that covert in to bucks toward the purchase of things in that store. When he is looking to purchase something in particular we will place a number of our monthly expenses on this card & then pay it off so that he gets the points toward his purchases. This is a great program that most of the big credit card businesses have. It's a way of getting free goods off of things that you need to purchase. It's also easier to pay one large bill at the end of every month.
