Careless And Hazardous Drinking Leads To Depression And Mental Health Issues, An Enabling Wife, And Inspiration For Helpful Change

It took many years but Sarah at long last decided that she had enough with her husband's careless and hazardous drinking. She was worn-out from seeing Keith come home in the early hours of the morning from drinking rather than spending quality time with her and the kids. She was also weary from the third DUI Keith recently received. Furthermore she was sick of manufacturing justifications for her spouse when he couldn't show up for work due to his abusive and hazardous drinking.

In a similar manner, she was apprehensive about the fact that their relationship was crumbling due to Keith's excessive and abusive drinking. And lastly she was worn-out from the uncertain financial quandary into which he had placed his family due to his abusive and hazardous drinking behavior.

One Wednesday afternoon when Sarah was thinking about what she could do about her husband's excessive and abusive drinking, she got to the point that she honestly had to do something constructive to cut into the destructive cycle of Keith's abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior. So Sarah looked on the Internet under "alcohol treatment" and discovered several treatment clinics that were all located less than forty-five miles away from where she and her husband lived.

When Sarah called each rehab facility she introduced herself and stated that Keith, her husband, was involved in excessive and abusive drinking behavior. She also said that her spouse had a top-rate health insurance program at his place of employment and that inpatient or outpatient alcohol abuse treatment would be covered if a health care professional in the company health plan authorized the rehabilitation.

After listening to Sarah go over her husband's excessive and hazardous drinking, the doctor in an encouraging but firm way told Sarah how she may have adding to her spouse's abusive and unhealthy drinking through the years. How? Basically by minimizing his drinking behavior rather than letting him experience the consequences of his excessive and abusive drinking behavior.

Stated in a slightly different way, the doctor told Sarah that she may have been accidentally enabling Keith's unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior. The psychologist also underlined the point that Sarah could not control her husband's conduct. With the guidance and encouragement of the rehab team at the rehab clinic, on the other hand, she would not only be able to learn how to stop contributing to Keith's careless and abusive drinking but she could also learn how to encourage him to schedule an appointment at the rehab center so that he could talk about his unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior with a psychologist.

The good news was that after Sarah mentioned this to her husband and he saw that she was serious, he told her that he had been extremely alarmed by his excessive and hazardous drinking behavior and that he was quite comforted to learn that Sarah wanted to do something constructive about his careless and abusive drinking behavior. As a result, he made an appointment to see a healthcare practitioner at the local alcohol rehab facility.

While simply calling a rehab program does not ensure that a person's careless and abusive drinking behavior will stop or that a person will automatically be more willing to learning about alcohol abuse facts, scheduling an appointment is evidently a much needed aspect in the treatment process. And since Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting counseling for his excessive and abusive drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the likelihood of a successful recovery was greatly enhanced.
