Audio Books - Places To Get Unedited Books On CD
I like to read, but find it difficult to fit in some quiet time on a consistent basis. I am usually far too busy with my work and my home life to sit down with a book. Then I saw an internet advertisement for a site that sells full-length books on cd, and I clicked through to look it over. They were offering a free trial download, which I took. I loved it! Rather than having to find extra time to read, I could now simply listen to a book while traveling back and forth between work.
After that first trial, I started looking at ways to get more complete audio books on CD. Becoming a full member at a website like Audible.com is one option, but I did not want to lock myself into paying $15 or more every month for audio books on CD. For those who can afford it, Audible is an outstanding choice. They have a gigantic selection of complete audio books on CD, including a big number of new releases from the most popular writers around. The download interface seems to be simple enough to use, and the files are able to be played on any digital music player available to buy. But as I said, I didn't want to pay for a membership, so I kept looking.
I then found a website called Libras which offers free complete audio books that anybody can get without paying one dime. The catch is that they only manage magazines that are in the public domain (meaning titles that are more than 75 years old) and the works are read by people who volunteer. If you like reading classics and do not mind the wildly varying degree of competence among the people who volunteer, then this would be a great alternative to joining a pay-to-listen program.
The best source of free full-length audio books ended up to be my local public library. My legitimate membership card allows me to "borrow" whole books on tape for either two or three weeks, after which time the mp3s expire and can't be played any longer. Two to three weeks is a good deal of time to get through a single book, so I've never had an issue with the time limit. Also, I do not mind that I cannot use the files ever again after the lending period expires. It is not just as if there are many books out there that I would listen to again and again.
Now that I'm getting free unabridged audio books from my library, my everyday commute has become more enjoyable and productive than ever. I love being able to simply sit there and be entertained by hearing a great story as I drive. If you are interested in unabridged audio books too, then I recommend checking out the sites on the net I mentioned above as well as your nearest library.
