A Young Female Prevails Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking, And Bolsters Her Self Worth

Emily was a forty-four-year-old cost estimator who was fed up with feeling depressed everyday and tired of her hazardous and careless drinking behavior. In a word, she was mad at herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, she hated the hangovers she experienced on a regular basis, she missed her old motivation for doing various things she liked, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship due to her hazardous drinking, and she was sick of feeling lackluster every morning.

On top of the perceptible alcohol-related health problems she was going through, probably the most regretful part of her drinking routine was the undependable and fraudulent individual she had turned into. In her heart she knew that she had been dishonest about her drinking activities with family, friends and relatives and she also knew she had been dishonest with herself about the "beneficial" effects of drinking. Not only this but she rationalized wolfing down two or three alcoholic beverages before going to social events and she also made excuses for needing two or three as soon as she got up so that she could cope with the "anxiety" at her place of employment. Stated briefly, Emily got to a special time in her life during which she comprehended that she hit the bottom of the barrel in her life and was now prepared to start the gradual road that leads to recovery.

One of basic ways that Emily initiated her "plan" was by requesting a transfer at her workplace. When her request was approved by top management, she moved 650 miles away to a different part of the United States. If nothing else, this undeniably made making new friends and detaching herself from her old friends and buddies much simpler. Then she phoned a physician in her new residence and made an appointment for a thorough psychological and physical exam.

After meeting with the physician and taking a number of lab tests, it became quite clear that Emily had crossed the line from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and, as a result, needed alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehab. At this time, her healthcare practitioner made it a point to underscore the diverse alcoholic symptoms and the common symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to focusing a lot of attention on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the healthcare professional also told Emily that her psychological evaluation revealed that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for her medical problem.

Due to her willingness to follow through with the rehab program, after nine weeks of residential rehabilitation, Emily was ready to start rehab on an outpatient basis. At this time, she began working at her new job and over a period of several weeks began building up her body by drinking filtered water, taking vitamins, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free lifestyle, and working out.

After around eight weeks of outpatient treatment during which time she never suffered through an alcohol relapse, Emily quit going to alcohol treatment and instead started going three times per week to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily continue her alcohol-free lifestyle, they provided her with the support she wanted, and they served as a frequent reminder of the negative results that are correlated with hazardous and careless drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now worthwhile and full of promise that she could have never yearned for or accomplished while while she was engaged in hazardous and abusive drinking behavior.
