A Young Couple Assesses Their Heavy And Abusive Drinking And Their Short And Long Range Dreams, Hopes, And Aspirations
Frank and Linda have been seeing one another for seven years. They met while enrolled in the same human geography class at a relatively large, rural, liberal arts college located in the Western part of the United States. While they were chiefly good pals at first, they at long last started to date when they were in their third year of college.
Due to the fact both of them came from very conventional backgrounds, neither one of them drank very much beyond the testing stage when they first began dating. As the time passed by, however, they began to go to more sorority and fraternity parties, football bashes, keg parties, and happy hours. As a consequence, they steadily began to drink increasingly more the longer they dated.
After they graduated from college, they both got jobs in a large city that was located nearly fifty miles from their undergraduate college. Then they finally decided to move into the same apartment with one another.
With any momentous transformation in an individual's life there is typically a trigger the specific modification in question. For Frank and Linda the notion of having children and buying a new house was this "trigger." To put it simply, for the first time in their lives, Frank and Linda started thinking about their irresponsible and hazardous drinking and the long term negative consequences of alcohol on their lives. As an example, they began to wonder if they would ever experience an alcohol overdose due to their irresponsible and abusive drinking.
Would their heavy and hazardous drinking negatively affect their ability to have children? How would they be able to continue spending most of their money on drinking if they were to begin saving for a new house?
From a different slant on things, although neither one of them ever suffered from alcohol poisoning, received a "driving under the influence" arrest, or experienced alcohol poisoning symptoms, they realized that their irresponsible and hazardous drinking was becoming a problem that they could not turn their backs on any longer. All of these uncertainties unmistakably led to the same conclusion, namely that Linda and Frank needed to comprehend more clearly that they couldn't maintain their excessive drinking if their aspirations, dreams, and goals were to be met.
Once they settled upon this conclusion, they alerted their drinking friends about their their plans to start a family, about their marital plans, and about their goal of buying or building a new house. They also told their drinking friends that they still wanted to pal around with them but that they would be drinking responsibly from this point forward so that they could start to realize their future dreams, goals, and aspirations.
Much to their disbelief, all of their buddies expressed relief because they too had been recalculating their lives and concluded that their life-styles were much too often focused on drinking. They also felt that they would have to change drastically if they were to become more mature and exhibit more consideration for their health, their careers, and for their goals in the next twenty or twenty-five years.
After their heart-to-heart chat with their pals about their plans, dreams, and hopes, Linda and Frank in actual fact started to have more significant relationships with all of their buddies. The main reason for this was the fact that all of them were on the same page regarding their irresponsible and hazardous drinking and their relatively short and long-term goals, plans, and aspirations.
