A Saturday Night Out With Buddies From College At A Local Bar And Grill Leads To Drinking Problems And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had secured a reputation as a studious person who rarely, if ever, "painted the town red" by drinking with her pals. She seemed determined to "shine" academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her some security from a financial perspective.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into an illustrious program in history. Her justification for this decision was that this subject would be a good foundation for law school and would not be indistinguishable from the preponderance of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate major or minor.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked diligently to finish what she was doing and then would take a rest when she could. As it turns out, nonetheless, virtually all of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not involve drinking. Evidently, Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were done and being delighted with the fact that she had done a super job on her tests, nevertheless, she felt like celebrating.

So Lois and a number of her friends went to a local club where they had a few mixed drinks. As the evening proceeded, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a superb time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around forty-five minutes when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then become unconscious, nevertheless, her classmates instantly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency services number, and ask for medical assistance because they believed that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was conscious of the fact that she had narrowly escaped death from an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, nonetheless, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost died the previous night. Her Mother and Father were aware how hard she worked at school and how little she permitted herself to socialize with her classmates. Nevertheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to avoid abusive and irresponsible drinking.

As a result, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking situation unfolds, that she always drink responsibly. Lois was fine with this and swore to her parents and to her friends that she would never ever drink in an abusive and hazardous manner. In Lois's own words, "I never had an inkling that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local college newspaper. I now understand that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not for me. I pledge that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. In other words, she immediately understood that she had made an error and made up her mind that she would not make the same mistake again. In point of fact, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of abusive and careless drinking can result in death.
