A Purchasing Agent Drinks Abusively, Gets Motivated To Get Treatment For Depression And Alcohol Dependency, And Enhances His Life

Ralph began drinking excessively when he was a senior in high school. Fortunately for him, even though he drank excessively and abusively when he was an adolescent and a young adult, over the years he has been mostly a moderate drinker.

After he completed his education he eventually found employment at a local pet food manufacturer where he applied himself and worked his way up from stock person, to office assistant, to purchasing assistant, to purchasing agent. Unlike his other positions, as the purchasing agent he frequently took potential vendors and existing vendors to lunch and to various sporting events.

Though it was not written in stone, meeting with existing vendors and potential vendors time after time involved circumstances in which alcohol was present. In point of fact, over the past thirteen months, Ralph had started to greatly increase his work related and his social drinking. This has led to a dilemma. Namely, the more successful he became as a purchasing agent, the more he began to drink.

In actual fact, it did not take much time at all before Ralph's abusive and careless drinking started to adversely affect his mental health, his relationships, his work efficiency, the money in his savings account, and his health. At one point, Ralph, in fact, began to get worried about his unhealthy and excessive drinking and wondered if his alcohol related issues were alcoholism signs. What is more, his almost constant feelings of depression also made him wonder whether he was becoming an alcohol addicted individual. In short, Ralph clearly needed to learn more about the facts about alcohol abuse and the signs of alcoholism.

So Ralph used his problem solving ability, called his physician, and set up an appointment for a complete physical examination. The next week when he saw his family doctor, Ralph unfortunately was told that he was dependent on alcohol. His doctor told Ralph that he needed to get alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehab for his alcohol dependency and that he also needed to get treatment for his depression. In short, Ralph needed treatment for his alcohol addiction and depression.

His family doctor recommended to Ralph that he request a one-month leave of absence from work and get enrolled in a quality residential alcohol rehab facility where his depression could also be evaluated and treated. This is precisely what Ralph did. The good news is that after his treatment for alcohol addiction and for depression, he felt like a different person. In truth, now that he was living an alcohol-free life he hardly ever got depressed and he now knew how to better manage his job, his relationships, his finances, and his health.

To no one's amazement, the biggest test Ralph faced was at work. Stated briefly, he still took potential vendors and his existing vendors to various sporting events and to lunch, but after his alcohol rehab he managed to abstain from drinking while entertaining his clients.

It may be noted that Ralph also found out that none of his existing vendors or potential vendors thought any less of him because of his alcohol-free lifestyle. To the contrary, he found out that his existing vendors and potential vendors respected him for staying true to his convictions.

After Ralph went through alcohol rehabilitation he found out that if he refrained from drinking, all of the other important parts of his life would be fortified. Every once-in-a-while, it can be pointed out, Ralph missed drinking, but the better health, relationships, finances, and the better work performance he experienced more than made up for his craving for alcohol.
